Doppler Waves

The following objects are emitting sound waves:

(1) This object at rest is emitting a wave that travels outward in all directions at a constant speed. (2) This next object is moving to the right creating a bow doppler shift wave where the frequency in front is greater than the frequency behind. (3) This object traveling at the speed of sound or Mach 1 creates a cone shockwave. (4) Here is a shadowgraph of a scale model rocket doing a pitch maneuver at Mach Speed (courtessy NASA).
